MFA Thesis: Composed Relation
This series is an investigation in creating energy and interest through the use of contrast and balance in a composition. My compositions are comprised of two main forms, solids and structures. By arranging these two forms I create assemblages that are visually complex and engaging without becoming complicated. The visual contrast is compounded by the inherent qualities and histories of the material; the structures are formed from stark white porcelain and the solids densely colored earthenware. The contrast and energy created in these pieces is both visual and conceptual and creates a dynamic that engages viewers on multiple levels.
